The Right to Bear Arms?
I was perusing BuzzFlash this morning when I came across an article they were highlighting from the Gun Guys, called "The Right To Bear Arms is Actually Wrong." It is an interesting article, but I find that it needs more discussion. So, I sent them an email stating so, which I copy herein:
When I clicked to this site from Buzzflash, and the specific article, "The 'Right to Bear Arms' is Actually Wrong", I was hoping to see a discussion of the phrase in the Second Amendment about well-armed militias. It wasn't there. Will there be any follow-ups to this article, and to this discussion? I sure hope so.
I have always argued that the NRA, and all their idiotic followers are in LaLa Land because the Second Amendment never ever discusses the rights of individuals. I says, and I quote, "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of the free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." In fact, my reading of this leads me to believe, rather strongly, that the right of the people, as part of a regulated militia, and only as part of a regulated militia have rights to bear arms.
Sure, when you take the Second Amendment apart, and only quote the phrase "the right of the people" out of context, it reads and says and justifies what the NRA and all their idiotic followers want it to say. Meanwhile, people, American citizens, are dying by the thousands. For the life of me, I cannot understand why the revolting republicans have been so bought out by this NRA nonsense. I guess it's all about their money, and money is apparently evertything to these bums. Scruples obviously mean nothing to them.
Kudos to your great efforts to maintain this site. I have registered for your emails, and if I had any money, I'd contribute to your cause, but right now, it's going to have to wait. It is our cause, after all.
Happy Holidays,
Diane
I'm not much of a Constitutional scholar, but this seems so clear to me, so abundantly clear, and I do not understand why the issue is not raised more often.
All in all, the Gun Guys is an excellent website for anyone who thinks our American gun policy is a policy run amok by special interest' money, particularly targeted to and bought in by the dumbass republican asswipes. I dunno. Maybe they should all be shot.

I always was under the impression that ' the right to bear arms' was to protect your property and family from enemies... not to create enemies based on race or national origin. The 'right' has gone too far when usurped by rightwing racist bustards and the like.

It's always interesting to watch debates on gun control:
liberal: "Perhaps it would be a good idea to do a background check and require a license that could be renewed every couple years to buy guns and ammo so it is harder for criminals to walk into a store and buy guns"
conservative: "OMG u want to take away our guns!! we have the right to bear arms and you hate the constitution because you want to take away my guns! the second amendment says i have a right to walk into walmart and buy a m16 with a scope and a grenade launcher no questions asked! i like guns! gun control doesn't work because it wont stop 100% of crime. look at this guy who got shot in an area that has gun control, therefor gun control doesnt werk. u are an evil liberal @$$ who wants to take away our guns and right. guns dont kill people, minoritys kill people. HEIL BUSH!!!!!11111!!
